Sunday Small Talk

Happy Sunday! What a full and wonderful weekend it’s been, and it’s not even over yet.

Friday night, we snuggled in to watch a movie. Neither of us had seen Young Frankenstein, so we made it happen. I’ll admit, it’s fairly entertaining, in a Mel Brooks sort of way. Huge mugs of hot chocolate were on the menu for dessert. Use this recipe from Hershey, you won’t be sorry. And you’ll never want hot chocolate from a packet again. Add marshmallows, a leftover candy cane, and you’re in business. Maybe even some Baileys, if that’s your thing. Delicious.

After helping my brother and sister in law move into their newly purchased house on Saturday, we headed to Big Rapids to watch Michigan Tech take on Ferris in a hockey game. First, Michigan Tech is the husband’s alma mater. Second, Ferris is undefeated this season. It made for a good game, with the final score being 3-2. Ferris won. Alas, we hollered and cheered and screamed our hearts out.  And will probably make this an annual tradition. Go Tech!

20140111_204228Tonight, we’re offering a free preview of the Dave Ramsey class we’re hosting at Rehoboth Reformed. If you’re in the area, come check it out! You’re not obligated to register just by attending–we’ll show a short video, and answer questions people might have. Short. Painless. We’re getting started at 4 pm. And there shall be snacks.

20131124_133528I wanna know: What have you been up to this weekend?

Homemade Hot Chocolate

Swiss Miss hot chocolate mix, you just lost your place in my life. Not that you had a place, really. But it is officially gone. No chance of making a return.

This past weekend, I got to go snowshoeing not once, but twice. Awesome! We did some more exploring around this northland I call home, enjoyed the rare sunny afternoon, and breathed some fresh air. Bar none, the best warm you up treat after being out in the cold outdoors is hot chocolate. Instead of ripping open a packet of powder next time, give this a try. You’ll be done in less than 10 minutes, and it’s worth every second of it!

Homemade Hot Chocolate

Recipe from Taste of Home

You’ll need:

  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

1. In a saucepan, mix your water, cocoa, sugar, and salt and bring it to a boil. Keep stirring while it boils for 2 minutes. Molten lava chocolatey, sugary goodness!

2. Add the milk and vanilla, and stir until it’s hot. Don’t let the milk boil, or it will burn. You want it just hot enough to be hot chocolate, but not so hot you couldn’t drink it.

3. Pour into your mugs of choice, and curl up on the couch with a blanket.
