Seven years ago this week, Bob and I were on our honeymoon. 2012 was a whirlwind year for both of us–we left jobs, got new jobs, moved to a different state, got engaged, and got married. When we were talking about our honeymoon, we wanted easy, within driving distance, and very, very chill.
After some hunting, we found a historic log cabin in the Upper Peninsula on a private 2 acre island. It was perfect. There is a fireplace in the living room, the bathroom floors are heated, and you have exclusive access to a row boat, pontoon boat, and canoe (one of which you’ll need to get to the island!).
The island is near Republic, which is a small (very small) town. It’s about 45 minutes from Marquette and an hour and a half from Houghton. If you’re looking for some hiking, it’s minutes from Craig Lake State Park. Truly in the middle of nowhere!
Even though the cabin was built in the 1800’s, it has plenty of modern comforts, and it’s the perfect place for a unique getaway. You can laze in the hammock, enjoy the deck, have a campfire, or spend your days fishing!
They just opened up bookings for 2020, and this cabin would be such a fun place to spend a week of your summer! At the very least, head over to the listing to check out the photos.
