National Twin Day

There’s a national day for everything, and today it’s the day to celebrate all of the twins in our lives! Plus, these pumpkins are turning 1 year old this month, and it’s been a hot minute since I spammed you with photos, so here we are.

On sleeping: they’re champion sleepers who are completely and utterly dependent on maintaining the routine they’re used to. We’ve deviated a few times and it hasn’t been disastrous, but for the most part, we follow their flexible routine day in and day out. When you have one baby, it feels easier to throw caution to the wind and fly by the seat of your pants. But with two babies, keeping them on the same routine has been the reason I’ve stayed sane.

On eating: they make a glorious mess, and are eating 3 full meals with us and 1 or 2 snacks a day. They eat pretty much what we do–if not the full meal, portions of it that aren’t choking hazards and are easy for them to grab and get to their mouths. Current favorites: cheese, pasta, green beans, blueberries, watermelon, eggs, and peanut butter sandwiches.

On getting around: they’re both crawling and pulling up on everything. Corinne will push to stand in the middle of the room and balance without any props. Isaac still needs a little support in that department. They’ll both be walking before we know it!

On playing outside: their absolute favorite thing to do these is to play outside-all the better if water and dirt are involved! We’re spending as much time as we can in the great outdoors and soaking up this sweet Michigan summertime. Neither of them like the feel of grass and dirt on their knees, so when they’re outside, they creep like little bears on their hands and their feet with their bums in the air, and it’s the most adorable. Poor Isaac is a mosquito magnet and gets these giant bites. They don’t seem to bother him, though!

On sibling relationships: they adore their big sister. I don’t say that lightly. She is their favorite person, they love watching her play and getting in on the action. I’m so excited to watch them become their own little tribe and to see more evidence of that special twin bond. Currently, they do everything together and are never very far apart.

On turning one: I can’t believe we’ve reached this milestone. On the one hand, it seems like it’s flown by in a blink of an eye. On the other hand, when I think about all of the stages we’ve been through and all of the obstacles we’ve overcome, it’s been every bit of 12 months. No flying about it.

I’m overcome with gratitude for Bob and Julia and how wonderful they are. They both bring so much joy and laid-back-ness to our family, and that’s such a gift. I’m also so grateful for our families and our community who have watched the kids, brought meals, and cheered us on.

Here’s to another month of summer fun and some big milestones in these sweet kiddos’ lives!

In case you missed it: here’s what I looked like at 35 weeks pregnant (exactly a year ago!) and what the babies were up to at 6 months.
