On Twins: 5 Months Old

These two precious nuggets are a whole 5 months old! I know I say this every month, but I can’t believe how far we’ve come since this summer when they were so teeny tiny. They aren’t newborns anymore, and I love it. Their little personalities are emerging, they smile and laugh, and are even starting to interact with each other.

Here’s a quick update on the ins and outs of twin life:

On growing: They’re still small compared to other babies their age, but they’re growing well. Isaac continues to be the chunkier twin–the boy is SOLID. They’ve both more than doubled their birth weights.

On eating: We’re still breastfeeding! I still use this pillow and feed them at the same time. If you’re having one baby, the single version of the pillow is great, too! Skip the boppy–this one’s way better!

On sleeping: If you are pregnant or have a baby 24 months old or younger, run (RUN!) to follow Taking Cara Babies on Instagram. Her IG posts, stories, and blog posts are so helpful. And I can’t say enough great things about her online sleep classes. It’s an investment in your baby, your sanity, and your marriage. 110% worth it. She’s a nurse and a mama and a pediatrician’s wife. Her advice is research based, presented with the grace of a mama’s heart. Thanks to her advice, I have 2 decent little sleepers most of the time.

On naps: Last week, we transitioned to 3 naps. They consistently sleep 1.5 hours in the morning, 1.5 hours in the early afternoon, and a short cat nap before dinner. The early afternoon nap usually overlaps with Julia’s nap and it’s as amazing as it sounds.

On personalities: Isaac is the more serious of the two babies, and Corinne is the cheerier one. She’s so quick to smile and if you’re not looking at her, she’ll stare you down until you make eye contact and interact.

On weekly routines: After the holidays, we’re back into our rough routine. Mondays are grocery day (ahem, donut day), Tuesdays we stay home, Wednesdays we go to the library for story hour, and Thursdays we make pancakes for breakfast. Most Fridays, Bob is home, so I schedule rehearsals and piano lessons. It’s a simple life with a lot of time at home, but I love it. I wouldn’t trade this season for anything.

It’s hard to believe that these two have been in our lives for a full 5 months. These babies are dreamboats, and having 3 children is so perfect for our family. Onward and upward to 6 months–a whole half a year!

In case you missed it….twins at 1 month and going from 1 to 3 kids.
