Keys to a great breakfast

There is nothing that I like more than having a whole morning to lounge around, make breakfast, and eat. Nothing is better. I promise you. If you don’t believe me, try it sometime.

Because I like nothing more than a great breakfast, Cara and I made breakfast. A great breakfast. We made eggs benedict and coffee cake. And put pinot in our orange juice. We turned to Joy of Cooking to guide us on our path to success. Hollandaise and poaching eggs is involved if you’ve never done it before, but it’s totally worth it. I promise.

And so, without further ado, I present the keys to great breakfast:

The key to egg poaching success: the mad vortex. A mini hurricane in a pot of boiling water.

The key to making any breakfast that much better: bacon.

The key to great OJ: add alcohol.

And there you have it. Mad vortex. Bacon. Wine. Breakfast. Simple, no?

I wanna know: What makes a great breakfast, in your opinion?

  1. You are brilliant. This is beautiful and looks delicious. And every time you mention The Joy of Cooking I picture my grandmother’s old blue copy. I’m completely inspired.

  2. Can’t have a great breakfast without pancakes. I love buckwheat buttermilk pancakes with **real** maple syrup – add a side of bacon and a fresh pot of the tastiest coffee you can find, rich with real cream – and you have a miracle on your hands.

Why a miracle? It can get me out of bed on a Saturday.
